AUSTRIAN GP QUALIFYING: SECOND ROW FOR LÓPEZ. SIXTH FOR ALDEGUER

The qualifying session for the Austrian Grand Prix saw López secure an excellent fourth place, while Aldeguer’s day ended in seventeenth position.

Alonso started the day focusing on race pace during FP2, where he achieved the twelfth-fastest time in the combined standings after the restart following Ogura’s crash. With a lap time of 1’33.957, the Spaniard managed to advance directly to Q2. Here, although overall times didn’t improve, López was able to set a good 1’34.110, placing him in fifth. Thanks to a penalty given to Arbolino in the morning session, the number 21 gained a position on the grid, securing the fourth starting spot.

For Fermín, the day was much more challenging. Brake issues relegated him to twenty-fourth place at the end of free practice, with a time of 1’34.310, forcing him to go through Q1. Despite setting the second-fastest time in this session, Aldeguer couldn’t improve further in Q2, ending the Austrian Saturday in seventeenth place with a time of 1’34.592.

ALONSO LÓPEZ #21: 4th in 1’34.110

“We’ve made a step forward compared to yesterday. We’ve focused a lot on race pace and there have been significant improvements. Tomorrow’s goal is to finish the race in the top five and I’m sure we have what it takes to do that”.

FERMÍN ALDEGUER #54: 17th in 1’34.592

“This morning we had some brake problems and I threw away the fast lap I was doing by touching the green at the end. This afternoon I wasn’t able to give my best but tomorrow we can still have a good race”.
