P14 AND P26 ON THE FIRST DAY OF FREE PRACTICE AT THE MALAYSIAN GP

The SpeedUp Team, with the Sync colors, returned to the track to face the nineteenth event of the 2024 season, the Malaysian Grand Prix. At the end of the first day of free practice, Alonso López placed himself in fourteenth position, while Alberto Surra, who replaces Fermín Aldeguer, finished in twenty-sixth position.

López recorded an encouraging seventh place in the morning FP, thanks to a time of 2’06.855. In the afternoon, the team focused its efforts on optimizing grip, a critical aspect for its Boscoscuro, resorting to a pit stop to make changes to the setup. During Practice 1, Alonso had some difficulty finding the ideal pace due to the lack of grip. With less than two minutes to go, a red flag forced him to return to the pits and once back on track, he still managed to complete one competitive lap thanks to which he provisionally placed himself in fourteenth place in the combined with a time of 2’06.593.

For Alberto Surra, who had not returned to Sepang since 2022 with Moto3, this was a day dedicated to finding the feeling with the circuit. The rider from Turin, with the number 67, took advantage of both sessions to regain confidence. He closed the first free practice session in twenty-sixth position with a time of 2’08.889, then managing to improve his time in FP1, where he set a 2’08.236, still maintaining twenty-sixth position.

ALONSO LÓPEZ #21: 14th in 2’06.593

“After the FP session, I expected a better result. I feel like we’re missing something and the bike isn’t behaving the way I’d like it to at the moment. Now we’ll analyze all the data to understand where we can improve”.

ALBERTO SURRA #67: 26th in 2’08.236

“As a first day I have to say that it went quite well. Obviously, I have to adapt to the bike and the track. The last time I rode in Sepang was in 2022 with the Moto3, so I still have to get used to it. I got along well with the team and they gave me a big hand. Already this morning we have made progress and I feel that we can only improve. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Team SpeedUp and Luca Boscoscuro for this opportunity and I wish Fermín a speedy recovery”.
